This exam is required by the state to obtain any type of Contractor license.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Requirements- Pass 2 exams with 70% on each
- Schedule testing for exams through PSI 1-800-733-9267
- New Mexico Business and Law
- Trade Exam
- Obtain required experience
- GB-2 Residential Building: 2 years/2,000 hours
- All other major trades: 4 years/4,000 hours
- Submit complete application
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department at 505-476-4500 or visit the New Mexico board of licensing contractors website to submit online.
As of this time, contractors are not required to have continuing education. Reciprocity agreements exist for a variety of license classifications / States.

The first step is to obtain pre-approval for your exam. This can be completed by submitting an Examination Registration Form to PSI. Once approved, applicants remain approved for 6 months. Most major trade exams can be taken only twice during the eligibility period.
Preparing to pass the State exam(s) is a critical part of the licensing process. Failing the exam can result in substantial delays before you are able to work under your license. - Passing Score: 75% correct
- Time allowed: 130 minutes

The New Mexico exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
