EE-98 Residential/Commercial Electrical Licensing, Education & Exam Prep
New Mexico Electricians must pass the EE-98 Residential/Commercial Electrical License exam in addition to the Business Law exams. The exam consists of 3 parts. What type of work can be done with this license?

EE-98 Residential/Commercial Electrical License
Includes all electrical wiring operating at 5000 volts, nominal, or less, electrical wiring identified in electrical specialty classifications ES-1, ES-2, ES-3 and ES-7, residential electrical wiring identified in classification ER-1, and only trenching and ductwork associated with classification EL-1. Does not include electrical wiring defined in the EL-1 classification other than trenching and duct work as specified above. May bid and contract as the prime contractor of an entire project provided the electrical contractor’s portion of the contract, based on dollar amount, is the major portion of the contract.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
EE-98 Residential/Commercial Electrical Requirements- Obtain 4 years/8,000 hours of Experience
- Pass Electrical Exam Part 1 (Commercial and Industrial) Exam Part 2 (Residential), Exam Part 3 (Specialties), and Business and Law exam with at least 75% score
- Become an approved Qualifying Party
- Submit signed and complete application
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department at 505-476-4500 or visit the New Mexico board of licensing contractors website to submit online.
16 hours of continuing education are required for this license. New Mexico has reciprocity agreements for Journeyman licenses with Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

New Mexico Electricians must pass three examinations: Electrical Exam Part 1 (Commercial and Industrial), Exam Part 2 (Residential), Exam Part 3 (Specialties), and Business and Law exam.
Beginning in January 2023, applicants may choose to take the NASCLA Electrical Exam instead of the state trade exam. You will still need to pass the Business and Law Exam. To obtain a license through the NASCLA exam in New Mexico, you must show you've held a license in another state for at least 1 year.

How do I pass the exam?
The New Mexico exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
