New Mexico Electricians must pass the EE-98 Residential/Commercial Electrical License exam in addition to the Business Law exams. The exam consists of 3 parts. Part 1 is Commercial and Industrial, Part 2 is Residential, and Part 3 is Specialties. We have the books, courses, and professionals ready to help you pass. Includes all electrical wiring operating at 5000 volts, nominal, or less, electrical wiring identified in electrical specialty classifications ES-1, ES-2, ES-3 and ES-7, residential electrical wiring identified in classification ER-1, and only trenching and ductwork associated with classification EL-1. Does not include electrical wiring defined in the EL-1 classification other than trenching and duct work as specified above. May bid and contract as the prime contractor of an entire project provided the electrical contractor’s portion of the contract, based on dollar amount, is the major portion of the contract.

16 hours of continuing education are required for this license. New Mexico has reciprocity agreements for Journeyman licenses with Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

Beginning in January 2023, applicants may choose to take the NASCLA Electrical Exam instead of the state trade exam. You will still need to pass the Business and Law Exam. To obtain a license through the NASCLA exam in New Mexico, you must show you've held a license in another state for at least 1 year.
