The First Steps to Obtaining a Journeyman Plumbing License

• Two consecutive years as a plumbing apprentice

The Kentucky journeyman plumber exam consists of two parts: A written portion and a practical portion. Covered topics include the principles of plumbing, KRS Chapter 318, and 815 KAR Chapters 2 and 20.

The written part of the exam pertains to sizing the main stacks. It consists of a prepared drawing with indicators for the stacks, vents, wastes, and connected fixtures. The applicant’s job is to insert the correct size on the corresponding position of the drawing. If you use oversize or undersize the piping, the test facilitator will deduct points.

The practical part of the exam tests an applicant’s installation ability. You must connect various plumbing materials and complete other related tasks with your own materials. The department will contact the applicant one week before the exam to inform them of what to bring.

Electrical Contractors vs. Master Electricians

In Wisconsin, a master electrician can perform electrical wiring activities without supervision. They are also able to supervise journeyman electricians, apprentices, and registered electricians. Becoming a master electrician will require substantial work experience in the field, which is detailed below.

Like master electricians, electrical contractors can also perform electrical wiring activities independently if they are also certified electricians. However, they also have the ability to bid for and contract out electrical work within the state.

When engaging in contracting activities, electrical contractors are responsible for utilizing the properly licensed or registered persons to install, repair, construct, or maintain electrical wiring and utilities. Electrical contractors also have the ability to apply for permits associated with these activities.

Becoming a Master Electrician

In order to become a master electrician, applicants must obtain a passing score on the master electrical exam. Applicants must receive pre-approval from the Department of Safety and Professional Services. Approval will not be granted unless the applicant has met the prerequisite requirements.

Obtaining an Approved Degree

If you want to sit for the master electrician’s exam, then you can meet the prerequisite requirements by obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree. The degree must be in electrical engineering and must be from an accredited college or university.

Serve as a Journeyman Electrician

The second option to gain approval to sit for the exam involves working as a journeyman electrician. Applicants must work as a licensed journeyman electrician for at least 12 months in the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin does not have reciprocity with other states.

Obtain Work Experience

The third path to becoming eligible for the master electrician exam is to obtain 10,000 hours of work experience over 60 months. Alternatively, you can complete 1,000 hours of work experience per year for 7 consecutive years.

A portion of the required hours can be met by completing education at an accredited college or university. Each completed semester is the equivalent of 500 hours of work experience. However, a maximum of 3,000 hours of education can be credited toward the required experience.

Becoming an Electrical Contractor

Unlike the master electrician license, an electrical contractor license applies to a business, rather than to individuals. In order to be eligible, the applicant must be an owner, partner, CEO, or chairman of an electrical contracting company.

Applicants must provide proof of compliance with Wisconsin’s worker’s compensation and unemployment program requirements. They must also obtain the minimum amount of liability insurance.

An electrical contractor cannot perform work unless they have also obtained a journeyman or master electrician’s license in the state of Wisconsin. The requirements for those certifications do not change, even though the applicant is an owner or partner in a licensed electrical contracting company.

An order submitted through the RocketCert website constitutes an offer by you to enter into a purchase and sale contract with RocketCert upon the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement. RocketCert will not be bound by any order until such time as RocketCert receives the order and RocketCert fills the order.
4. Refunds. You may receive a refund for any course within 30 days of the purchase if you have not completed the course. 5. Payment. You agree to pay the Total specified on the invoice when you click to accept this Agreement. Except as provided in this Agreement, all payments are nonrefundable. You shall provide to RocketCert ACH information, a valid credit card number and associated information, paypal, eCheck, or other payment method acceptable to RocketCert (“Payment Device”). You hereby authorize RocketCert to charge to this Payment Device for the Total. You agree that any amount not paid when due will accrue interest, from the due date, at the lesser of (i) an annual rate of 18.0%, or (ii) the maximum rate permitted by law. The waiver of an interest charge, late fee or any portion thereof is not a waiver of any future interest charge or late fee. You shall be liable to RocketCert for any and all costs and expenses incurred by RocketCert, including without limitation attorneys’ fees and expenses, in collection of any past due amounts hereunder.
6. Shipping Terms. Unless otherwise noted, all Books are shipped f.o.b. point of shipment and, in all cases, title shall pass to you upon delivery to the carrier at point of shipment and thereafter all risk of loss or damage shall be upon you.
7. Delivery. Delivery dates given in advance of actual shipment are estimates and shall not be deemed to represent fixed or guaranteed delivery dates. RocketCert shall not be liable for failure to deliver or for delay in delivery or performance because of: (i) circumstances beyond its reasonable control; or (ii) an act of God, act or omission of you, act of civil or military authority, governmental priority or other allocation or control, fire, strike, or other labor difficulty, pandemic, riot or other civil disturbance, insolvency or other inability to perform by the manufacturer or delay in transportation; or (iii) any other commercial impracticality. In the event of any such delay, the date of delivery or performance shall be extended for a period to the time lost by reason of delay.
8. Return of Books. Books may be returned within 30 days of receipt, as long as the Books have not been marked in, highlighted or are otherwise not in new condition, in which case the Books may not be returned. 9. Term. The term begins on the date this Agreement is signed by you and continues as long as you are receiving Services (“Term”).
10. Either party may terminate this Agreement at any time if the other party has materially breached this Agreement and has not cured the material breach within 30 days of receiving written notification from the non-breaching party. If the Agreement is terminated then your right to receive Services under this Agreement is also immediately terminated.
11. Sections 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, and 25 and survive the termination or expiration of this Agreement.
12. Confidentiality. “Confidential Information” means all information related to the Services and Materials provided under this Agreement, whether tangible, intangible, written, oral, on magnetic or other storage media, or in any other form of every nature and kind, whether disclosed prior to or after the date hereof, including, without limit, the following: educational materials, sample tests, test questions, pricing, procedures, methods, all as disclosed or made available in any manner by RocketCert. However, Confidential Information will not include information which is public knowledge, becomes public knowledge through no fault of the parties, or is received independently from a third party who had such information independently from the parties hereto, and who had the right to disclose such information.
13. Acknowledgements. You have been provided access to the Confidential Information for your personal use only. You acknowledge and agree that Confidential Information is proprietary to and a valuable trade secret of RocketCert and that any disclosure or unauthorized use thereof will cause immediate, irreparable harm and loss to RocketCert.
14. Non-Disclosure. You agree to (i) not disclose the Confidential Information to anyone (ii) use the Confidential Information only for personally receiving the Services, and (iii) protect and maintain the secrecy of the Confidential Information. 
15. Restrictions. The Materials provided as a part of the Services are the copyrighted work of RocketCert. Unauthorized copying of the Materials or any accompanying written materials is expressly forbidden. You may be held legally responsible for any copyright infringement that is caused or encouraged by your failure to abide by the terms of this Agreement. You may not distribute copies of the Materials to third-parties. You may not modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the Materials. You may not remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notices, including trademark or copyright notices, in the Materials. You may not, directly or indirectly, sell, license, or distribute the Services or Materials by themselves or as a part of a service or product.
16. Customer Information. As a part of receiving the Services you agree to provide RocketCert with personal information, and other information requested by RocketCert (“Client Data”). RocketCert agrees to keep Client Data according to RocketCert’s privacy policy (https://rocketcert.com/privacy-pollicy) which is incorporated into this Agreement by reference.
17. Governing Law. This Agreement will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Tennessee, excluding its conflicts of laws rules, regardless of where any action may be brought. Both parties agree that the sole and exclusive venue for any legal proceeding arising in connection with or related to this Agreement will be in the state or federal courts in Knoxville, Tennessee.
18. Attorneys’ Fees. The parties agree that the prevailing party in any legal proceeding related to the Services or arising under this Agreement shall be entitled to recover its costs, disbursements, and reasonable attorneys’ fees from the non-prevailing party following a final judgment.
19. No Third Party Beneficiaries. The terms and conditions of this Agreement are for the benefit of the parties and no other party.
20. Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights under this Agreement or to use the Services or Materials without RocketCert’s written consent. Any attempt to assign this Agreement or any rights or obligations under this Agreement in violation of this Section is null and void.
21. Entire Agreement. This Agreement constitutes the final and entire agreement between the parties and supersedes any prior agreements, written or oral, between the parties. Further, no amendment, modification, or waiver of, or supplement to, this Agreement shall be effective, unless it is in writing and signed by each party.
22. No Waiver. No failure or delay by either party in exercising any right or remedy under this Agreement will waive any provision of this Agreement.
23. No Warranty. Except as provide in this Agreement or an express policy provided by RocketCert, the Services, Materials and Books are provided AS IS by RocketCert. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ROCKETCERT DISCLAIMS, AND YOU EXPRESSLY WAIVE, ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES OR REPRESENTATIONS OF ANY KIND OR NATURE, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. 
24. Limitation of Liability. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall RocketCert be liable for any incidental, consequential, special, indirect, punitive or exemplary damages or lost profits whatsoever arising out of any problems related to the Services, Materials or Books, even if RocketCert has been advised of the possibility of such damages or such damages could reasonably have been foreseen by RocketCert. The total liability of RocketCert with respect to any and all claims, irrespective of the form of action, whether in contract, negligence, product liability, or otherwise, arising out of or incident to this Agreement, Books, Materials or Services shall not exceed the amounts paid to RocketCert by you under this Agreement. If RocketCert furnished you with advice or other assistance related to any Books, Materials, or Services supplied hereunder, the furnishing of such advice or assistance will not subject RocketCert to any liability, whether based on contract, warranty, tort (including negligence) or other grounds.
25. Release. You hereby release, hold harmless from, and agree not to sue RocketCert, and its officers, managers, members, employees, agents, or independent contractors from any and all rights, claims, demands, actions, liabilities and causes of action, whether accrued or unaccrued, fixed or contingent, legal or equitable, on account of any damage, and which in any manner relate to or arise out of the Services, Materials or Books, whether arising out of the negligence of the RocketCert or otherwise. You understand that the prices RocketCert charges are based on the fact that RocketCert is not liable for such claims. 
26. Other Conditions. Due to the many variables involved, RocketCert can make no guarantees regarding the actual results you will obtain from the Services. RocketCert does not guarantee that you will pass any test.
27. Notices. All notices required under this Agreement will be in writing and be given by personal delivery, overnight courier service, first class mail postage prepaid, email, at the parties’ respective addresses set forth in this Agreement, or at such other address(es) as shall be specified in writing by such party to the other party in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Section. All notices shall be deemed effective upon personal delivery, upon sending of the email, or one business day following deposit with any overnight courier service, or three business days following deposit with the U.S. Postal System, first class postage attached, in accordance with this Section. Notices for you shall be sent to the address you provided in this Agreement. Notices for RocketCert shall be sent to the address set forth for RocketCert on the order form.
