How do I obtain a certification?
To apply for your Commercial Building Inspector certification, contact the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services at 608-266-2112 or visit their website.
Commercial Building Inspector Licenses expire every 4 years on June 30th. To renew, you must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education and submit your renewal to the state. Inspectors are required to complete a total of 24 hours of CE. Wisconsin has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.

Which exam do I need to take?
Applicants have the choice of either taking the trade exam or submitting a copy of an approved certification or registration. The Wisconsin Inspector Exams are administered by the Department of Safety and Professional Services. To schedule your exam, you must submit an application through DSPS's online LicensE Portal.
