How do I obtain a commercial mechanical inspector license?
Passing the M2 exam earns an ICC certification, but it does not automatically grant you a state or local license. If your jurisdiction requires a license, contact the issuing board for its application, qualification, and renewal requirements before taking the exam.
Continuing education requirements and renewal schedules vary by jurisdiction. ICC certification also has its own renewal requirements. We offer state-approved continuing education for trades across the country.

What does the ICC M2 Commercial Mechanical Inspector exam cover?
You will be tested on applying mechanical code requirements to installations in commercial buildings, including heating and cooling equipment, ventilation, duct systems, and fuel supply systems. The exam uses the International Mechanical Code (IMC) and International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) for your selected code edition.

NOTE: To obtain the Commercial Combination Inspector (RCI) Certification, completion of the four Commercial Inspector certifications is required. ICC does not recognize prior inspector certifications issued by any of the model code organizations (MCO) as equivalent to the four ICC commercial inspector certifications, as the scope of these prior MCO inspector examinations was very limited in the area of commercial inspection.
