Alaska's Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development requires applicants to pass licensing exams based on the type of registration. If you are applying for registration for New Homes OR Joint Registration, four International Code Council (ICC) national exams are required. If you are applying for registration for Existing Homes ONLY, the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE) is required. What are the Alaska Home Inspector License requirements?
Application Requirements
- Completed and Signed Application (Pages 1-3)
- Applicable Fees
- Complete the Authorization for Release Records form
- Evidence of Passing Score on the Applicable Exam(s)
- Surety Bond
- Applicants must have bodily injury and and property damage liability insurance with the minimum coverage of the following:
- $20,000 for injury or damage to property
- $50,000 for injury or damage, including death, to any one person
- $100,000 for injury or damage, including death, to more than one person

How do I obtain an Alaska home inspector license?
To apply for your license, contact the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development at 907-465-2550 or visit their website.
Licensed home inspectors in Alaska are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education every two years. Certificate of completion will be required to renew your home inspector license, which expires biennially on June 30th.
