How do I pass the Texas plumbing exam?
The Texas exams are closed book and unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.

Journeyman Plumber License
Journeyman Plumbers may install, change, repair, service, or renovate plumbing under the supervision of a Responsible Master Plumber. A Journeyman may also directly supervise a Plumber’s Apprentice on all jobsites or a Tradesman Plumber-Limited on jobsites for structures other than one and two-family dwellings.

Master Plumber License
Master Plumbers are able to install, change, repair, service, or renovate plumbing under the supervision of a Responsible Master Plumber. A Master may also directly supervise a Plumber’s Apprentice on all jobsites or a Tradesman Plumber-Limited on jobsites for structures other than one and two-family dwellings.
What are the requirements to getting a Texas Plumber license?
Tradesman Requirements
Prior to taking the Tradesman exam you must:
- Be a citizen or national of the United States or an alien or non-immigrant eligible for licensure by the State of Texas
- Be currently registered as a Plumber’s Apprentice or currently licensed as a Tradesman Plumber-Limited in Texas or currently licensed as Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber in another state
- Have at least 4,000 hours of experience working in the plumbing trade
- Have completed a 24-hour training course* approved by the TSBPE or you are enrolled and in or have completed a training program approved by the United States Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship
- you have obtained your fingerprints for review and approval
Journeyman Requirements
Prior to taking the Journeyman exam you must:
- Be a citizen or national of the United States or an alien or non-immigrant eligible for licensure by the State of Texas
- Be currently registered as a Plumber’s Apprentice or currently licensed as a Tradesman Plumber-Limited in Texas or currently licensed as Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber in another state
- Have at least 8,000 hours of experience working in the plumbing trade
- Have completed a 48-hour training course* approved by the TSBPE or you are enrolled and in or have completed a training program approved by the United States Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship
- you have obtained your fingerprints for review and approval
Master Requirements
Prior to taking the Master exam you must:
- Be a citizen or national of the United States or an alien or non-immigrant eligible for licensure by the State of Texas
- Have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Currently licensed as:
- A Journeyman Plumber in Texas or another state and have held your license for at least four years
- A Journeyman Plumber in Texas or another state, have held your license for at least one year, and have successfully completed a training program approved by the United States Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship
- A Master Plumber in another state and previously held a Journeyman Plumber License for at least four years
- A Master Plumber license in another state, previously held a Journeyman Plumber License for at least one year, and have successfully completed a training program approved by the United States Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.
How do I obtain a Texas Plumbing license?
To apply for your license, contact the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) at 512-936-5200 or visit the TSBPE website to submit online.
Texas requires 6 hours of continuing education for this license. Texas has limited reciprocity agreements, check with the state when you apply for the most up-to-date information.

Meet Eligibility Requirements
First you will need to meet all legal, experience, and education requirements set forth by the TSBPE.
Exam Pre-Approval
Next, obtain pre-approval for your plumbing exam in Texas. This can be completed through the TSBPE website. Fill out the appropriate form and submit it to the state. If you include a valid email address, you will receive your exam date and results via email.

PASS THE STATE EXAM
After studying with RocketCert, you will be on your way to passing the required State exam (see below). Contact PSI at 833-333-4741 to begin this process. Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities. Pre-approval is required to schedule the exam.
