Rhode Island requires all roofers to obtain a license before any bidding or commercial work can take place. Most Rhode Island licenses require that you complete a pre-registration course, but if you will be working exclusively on commercial structures, then you are exempt from the pre-registration course requirement. Commercial Roofing License
A Commercial Roofing License includes any and all construction, renovation, or other work performed on or about the roof, as the term is commonly used, of any nonresidential structure or similar building and shall specifically include sealing, water proofing, weatherproofing, related sheet-metal work, and similar work. Commercial or industrial structures or buildings shall not include any residential structures consisting of four dwelling units or less.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Commerical Roofer- Documentation of completion of the Commercial Roofing License Exam.
- $2,000,000 Certificate of Liability Insurance.
- Certificate of Worker's Compensation Insurance.
- Business ID# and date of incorporation for Corporations and Limited Liability Companies.
- Pay the initial license fee.
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Rhode Island Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board at 401-921-1590 or visit the board website.
The state of Rhode Island requires Commercial Roofers to complete 12 hours of continuing education every two years to renew their license. Also, Rhode Island has no reciprocity agreements for this license.
