How do I pass the new Jersey electrical license exam?
The New Jersey exams are open book, and based on the 2023 NEC. Our Bundle will include a copy of the NEC 2023 for studying, but the testing agency will provide a copy of the code book to be used during the actual exam. An Electrical Contractor in New Jersey is a person who is in the business of contracting to install, erect, repair or alter electrical equipment for the generation, transmission or utilization of electrical energy.
What are the requirements to getting a New Jersey electrical license?
Electrical Contractor License
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; and
- 5 years’ practical hands-on work experience in approved electrical work. This can be in the form of:
- Completion of a 4-year board approved electrical apprenticeship program and 1 year of hands on experience
- Satisfying the requirements for a Journeyman Electrician and have 1 year of hands-on experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and completion of two years of practical hands-on experience
- Working in the field of Electrical Contracting for at least five years immediately preceding the date of application.
How do I obtain a New Jersey electrical license?
To apply for your license, contact the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors at 973-504-6410 or visit the board website.
