New Jersey requires all commercial trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc) to obtain a license before any bidding or work can take place. The Business and Law test accompanies the trade exams as a requirement for licensure. Some trades, such as HVACR, the Business and Law exam will include additional statutes that relate directly to the trade. The core content of the Business and Law exam will be the same. We offer two versions of the New Jersey Business and Law exam prep - one for those taking the HVACR exam, and the other is for all other trades that require it. The bundles will include the same edition of the New Jersey Contractors Guide To Business, Law and Project Management.

How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the correct licensing board from the NJ Department of Consumer Affairs.
The state requires continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, New Jersey has reciprocity agreements for certain licenses.

Preparing to pass the State exam is a critical part of the licensing process. Failing the exam can result in substantial delays before you are able to work under your license. We offer industry leading exam prep and all of the required books, at an unbeatable price.
If you are taking an examination for the first time, you will be required to take all examinations on the same day. If you fail the examination, you may retest on an unlimited basis. However, you must wait 6 months between each attempt.
Upon approval from the Board, you will be sent an Examination Eligibility Notice, along with instructions for paying and scheduling the examination. Pre-approval is required from the testing agency prior to scheduling the exam.

Which exam do I need to take?
New Jersey Contractors must pass two examinations: Trade exam and Business and Law exam. Some trades, such as plumbing, will also require a practical examination.

In addition to the Business and Law Exam, the appropriate trade or construction exam must be passed.

The New Jersey exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
