Electrical Contractors are licensed to install, repair, alter, add to, or design electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, and conduit, including the electrical installations and systems within plants and substations and ALL alarm systems and specialty categories.
The scope of certification includes installation, repair, alteration, addition to, replacement of or design of electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduit, or any part thereof, in a 1, 2, 3, or 4 family residence not exceeding 2 stories in height, and accessory use structures in connection with the residence. The electrical service installed or worked upon is limited to single phase, 400 ampere single service
Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to be eligible for an Electrical Contractors License
In addition, the candidate for certified electrical contractor must include at least 40% of work that is in 3-phase services.

14 hours of continuing education are required each renewal. Florida may have reciprocity agreements for this license. Contact the licensing board you are applying to see if they have reciprocity agreements for the license you currently hold.

The first step is to obtain pre-approval for your exam. This can by submitting your application for examination to the DBPR.

Take the state-specific exam (either Residential or unlimited) OR the NASCLA Accredited Electrical Exam
The NASCLA Electrical Exam is Currently Accepted by 15 state licensing boards as a substitute for the state's trade exam. For a full list of accepting agencies Click Here.

The Florida exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
