A license is required in Florida to bid on any Electrical project. The process and exam for general, building, and residential contractors are similar to each other. Electrical Contractors are licensed to install, repair, alter, add to, or design electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, and conduit, including the electrical installations and systems within plants and substations and ALL alarm systems and specialty categories.
Applicants must meet ONE of the following critera to be eligible for an Electrical Contractors License
In addition, the candidate for certified electrical contractor must include at least 40% of work that is in 3-phase services.
To schedule your electrical exam, first obtain pre-approval with PTI by visiting floridaexam.com or call 407-264-0562. After you have been approved, you can schedule your exams with Pearson VUE at 888-204-6230.
Applicants are required to take the Business and Finance exam in additon to their required electrical exam (either Residential or unlimited)
The Florida exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
The exam prep includes math and accounting, theory and calculations, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each reference, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
