The state of Wisconsin requires applicants to complete an exam or prove that they have an approved state certification before they can become a UDC Inspector. UDC HVAC Inspector
A person who holds a certification issued by the Department of Safety and Professional Services as a certified UDC HVAC Inspector may conduct inspections of one- and two-family dwellings for the purpose of administering and enforcing codes.
What are the requirements for getting this certification?
UDC HVAC Inspector- Examination
- Submit appropriate application and fees
- Receive eligibility to take exam from Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
- Complete and submit proof of passing score on the Wisconsin UDC HVAC Inspector examination
- Proof of Current Certification
- Submit appropriate application and fees
- Upload a copy of current certification of one of the following:
- Wisconsin Commercial Building Inspector
- Wisconsin HVAC Qualifier

How do I obtain a certification?
To apply for your UDC HVAC Inspector certification, contact the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services at 608-266-2112 or visit their website.
UDC HVAC Inspector Licenses expire every 4 years on June 30th. To renew, you must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education and submit your renewal to the state. Inspectors are required to complete a total of 24 hours of CE. Wisconsin has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.

Which exam do I need to take?
Applicants have the choice of either taking the trade exam or submitting a copy of an approved certification or registration.The Wisconsin Inspector Exams are administered by Pearson VUE or the Department of Safety and Professional Services. To schedule your exam, you must submit an application through DSPS's online LicensE Portal.
