Wisconsin HVAC License
HVAC Contractor & Qualifier Certification
A HVAC Contractor and HVAC Qualifier certification is required to obtain a one- or two-family building permit in Wisconsin. An exam is not required to obtain either certification, but 12 hours of Qualifier Training are required to obtain HVAC Qualifier. All of our training is offered in an online self-paced format. HVAC Contractor Certification
HVAC Contractors in Wisconsin may engage or offer to engage in installing or servicing heating, ventilating or air conditioning equipment. This license allows the business to advertise, offer, and engage in the trade.

HVAC Qualifier Certification
A person or entity who utilizes a person who holds an HVAC Qualifier certification shall be considered a certified HVAC business. This Qualifier may exempt the HVAC business from certain local certifications.
What are the requirements to getting each certification?

All applicants must pass the HVAC Qualifier Exam (pre-approval is required)Experience/Education
- At least 4 years of attendance in a school of mechanical engineering or in an accredited HVAC related program. OR
- Obtain 1,000 hours per year for the last 4 years in supervising or performing the design, installation, servicing or maintenance of HVAC systems or equipment. OR
- Any combination of 4 years of experience and education listed above.
HVAC Contractor- The person applying for an HVAC Contractor registration shall be the owner of the contracting business, a partner in the contracting business applying on behalf of a partnership, or the chairman of the board or chief executive officer applying on behalf of the contracting corporation.
How do I obtain a certification?
To apply for your certification, contact the Wisconsin DSPS at 608-266-2112 or visit Department of Safety and Professional Services.
The state does not require continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, Wisconsin has no reciprocity agreements for this certification type.

How do I obtain Qualifier Training?
The Wisconsin exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
