A person who holds a certification issued by the Department of Safety and Professional Services as a certified UDC Electrical Inspector may conduct inspections of one- and two-family dwellings for the purpose of administering and enforcing the Electrical Standards Code
What are the requirements for getting this certification?
UDC Electrical Inspector- Examination
- Submit appropriate application and fees
- Receive eligibility to take exam from Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
- Complete and submit proof of passing score on the Wisconsin Commercial Building Inspector examination
- Proof of Current Licensure/Certification
- Submit appropriate application and fees
- Upload a copy of current license/certification of one of the following:
- Wisconsin Journeyman Electrician license
- Wisconsin Residential Master Electrician license
- Wisconsin Master Electrician license
- Certified Electrical Inspector Residential issued under International Association of Electrical Inspectors / National Fire Protection Association

How do I obtain a certification?
To apply for your UDC Electrical Inspector certification, contact the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services at 608-266-2112 or visit their website.
UDC Electrical Inspector Licenses expire every 4 years on June 30th. To renew, you must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education and submit your renewal to the state. Inspectors are required to complete a total of 24 hours of CE. Wisconsin has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.

Applicants have the choice of either taking the trade exam or submitting a copy of an approved license or certification.The Wisconsin Inspector Exams are administered by the Department of Safety and Professional Services. To schedule your exam, you must submit an application through DSPS's online LicensE Portal.
