Commercial Building Inspector
A person who holds a certification issued by the Department of Safety and Professional Services as a certified Commercial Building Inspector may conduct inspections of public buildings and places of employment for the purpose of administering and enforcing the Commercial Building Code
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your inspector or plan reviewer license, contact the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services at 608-266-2112 or visit their website.
Commercial Building Inspector Licenses expire every 4 years on June 30th. To renew, you must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education and submit your renewal to the state. Inspectors are required to complete a total of 24 hours of CE. Wisconsin has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.

These Wisconsin Inspector Exams are administered by the Department of Safety and Professional Services. To schedule your exam, you must submit an application through DSPS's online LicensE Portal.

How do I pass the exam?
