What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman Electrical License
A Journeyman Electrician is licensed to install electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment, and shall be employed at all times by an electrical contractor who carries a current Wyoming electrical contractor’s license.

Electrical Contractor License
An Electrical Contractor is licensed to bid, plan, layout, install and shall be employed at all times by an electrical contractor who carries a current Wyoming electrical contractor’s license.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Electrician Pre-Qualifications- At least 4 years (8,000 hours) work experience in the electrical wiring industry.
- 144 hours per year OR 576 hours (over a 4-year apprenticeship) of electrical related classroom instruction from an approved electrical apprenticeship training program.
- Up to 2 years (4,000 hours) may be given for study of electrically related courses taken through an accredited school exceeding the required 576 hours.
- Electrical work experience in commercial, industrial, and residential categories with no more than 75% of the 4 years in any one category
- A copy of current electrical license from another state licensing board, with more stringent work history requirements equal to or more than the 4-year (8,000 hour) state of Wyoming requirement may be acceptable.
- Pass the Wyoming Master Electrician Examination
Master Electrician Pre-Qualifications- At least 8 years (16,000 hours) work experience in the electrical wiring industry
- 4 years (8,000 hours) as a documented licensed journeyman
- 576 hours of electrical related classroom instruction
- Pass the Wyoming Master Electrician Examination
- A copy of current electrical license from another state licensing board, with more stringent work history requirements equal to or more than the 8-year (16,000 hour) state of Wyoming requirement may be acceptable.
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Wyoming Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety at 307-777-7288 or visit the website.
16 Hours of continuing education are required for each renewal. Also, Journeyman Electricians have reciprocity agreements with Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah. Master Electricians have reciprocity with Idaho, South Dakota, and Utah.

How do I pass the exam?
The exam prep includes math, theory and calculations, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
