A Electrical Contractor in West Virginia engages in the business of electrical work and employs master electricians, journeyman electricians, apprentice electricians or other related workers for the construction, alteration or repair of any electrical wiring, equipment or systems as defined in the scope of the national electric code.

West Virginia does not require each licensee to complete Continuing Education prior to each renewal. West Virginia has reciprocity arrangements on an individual basis.

In order to sit for the exam, you must submit the application for licensure to the state. It must include verified education and work experience as required by the state. Once approved, the state will contact you with an exam date and time.

After completing all the steps above, it will be time to apply through the Contractor Licensing Board to obtain your West Virginia General Contractor License. Note: As of September 2024, the West Virginia contractor licensing exams will be administered by ProV Exams. The previous references for the exams administered by PSI may still be used until April 2025.
