A Plumbing License in North Carolina can be utilized for work on the system of pipes, fixtures, apparatus and appurtenances, installed upon the premises, or in a building, to supply water thereto and to convey sewage or other waste there from. Includes fuel piping qualification.

North Carolina Plumbers are not required to complete continuing education to renew their license. North Carolina has no reciprocity agreements for Plumbing licensees. However, the do have a technical exam waiver that could allow you to be exempt from the technical exam. You must still meet North Carolina's experience requirements and pass the business and law exam. Currently they only offer exam waivers if you hold one of the following licenses in South Carolina: Residential Plumbing or Residential HVAC.

In order to sit for the North Carolina plumbing exam, you must submit the application for licensure to the state. It must include verified education and work experience as required by the state. Upon application approval, the applicant will receive written notification which will include instructions for scheduling the examination, which must be taken within thirty (30) days of the date of the notification letter.
After studying with RocketCert, you will be on your way to passing the required State exam(s) (see below). Pre-approval is required. Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities.
After completing all the steps above, it will be time to apply through the NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors to obtain your North Carolina Plumbing License. North Carolina Plumbing Contractors must pass two examinations: the Plumbing Exam and the Business and Law exam. Business and Law is not required if the applicant holds an active contractor license with this Board and the applicant passed the Board’s Business and Law Exam after August, 2003.
Upon application approval, the applicant will receive instructions for scheduling the examination.
