Commercial Electrical Contractor Licensing & Exam Prep
Arizona Electrical Contractor Licenses are split into Residential, Commercial, and Dual certifications. The state previously required applicants to pass a Statutes and Rules exam, and that has been replaced by the AZ Statutes and Rules Training Course and Exam (SRE) provided by the Registrar of Contractors. C-11 Commercial Electrical Contractor
Arizona Commercial Electrical Contractors are able to perform installation, alteration, and repair of any wiring, related electrical material and equipment used in the generating, transmitting or utilization of electrical energy less than 600 volts, including all overhead electrical wiring on public right-of-ways for signs and street decorations, and all underground electrical distribution systems of less than 600 volts serving private properties. Installation, alteration, and repair on other than public right-of-ways of all outside, overhead, and underground electrical construction and all wiring in or on any building of less than 600 volts.

CR-11 Dual Commercial Electrical Contractor
CR-11 Dual Classified Electrical Contractors are licensed to perform within the scope of both Commercial (C-11) and Residential (R-11) licenses.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Exam & Experience- Pass NASCLA Electrical Contractor Exam or PSI Commercial Electrical Contractor Exam
- Complete the AZ Statutes and Rules Training Course and Exam (SRE) provided by the board
- Submit 4 years hands on and/or managerial experience
- Submit Background Check for every person named on the License Application Form
- Form a legal entity
Bond LimitsCommercial Electric Contractor (C-11)
- Obtain a surety bond according to anticipated gross volume:
- $2,500 bond for less than $150,000
- $7,000 bond for work ranging $150,000 to $500,000
- $17,500 bond for work in excess of $500,000 to $1 million
- $25,000 bond for work in excess of $1 million to $5 million
- $37,500 bond for work in excess of $5 million to $10 million
- A $50,000 bond is required for anything over $10 million
Bond requirements for Dual Licensed contractors are simply the Residential and Commercial bond requirements combined.
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Arizona Registrar of Contractors at 803-896-4686 or visit their website.
The state does not require continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, Arizona has reciprocity agreements with California, Nevada, and Utah.

Which exam do I need to take?
All applicants must pass the Statutes and Rules Course, but you may choose between two exam options:
The state-specific exam OR the NASCLA Accredited Electrical Exam

Applicants will take computer-based training about applicable Arizona statutes and rules and then be tested on what they learned throughout the training. Unlike the trade exams, this training course and exam is only available online and only offered through the ROC.
How do I pass the exam?
The Arizona exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
