All work must be done under the supervision of a licensed employer and must be documented through notarized letters from past or present employers. If you have military experience in these areas, you must submit a copy of your DD-214 with your application.

You must also take and pass the Wyoming Low Voltage General Technician Exam before you can receive your license.

Once you obtain an LV-6 low voltage general technician license in Wyoming, you will be authorized to install, repair, and supervise the installation of equipment under 90 volts, including any of the systems in which you gained your initial 4,000 hours of work experience.

The license lasts for three years, and you can renew it through the public portal maintained by the Wyoming State Fire Marshal.

Taking the 218 Wyoming Low Voltage General Technician Exam

The 218 Wyoming Low Voltage General Technician Exam is provided by the International Code Council (ICC). All examinees can use approved reference materials during the open-book test, which consists of the following sections:

• General knowledge
• Low voltage remote control and alarm systems
• Low voltage communication and sound systems
• Low voltage control circuits
• Fiber optical cables and raceways

The first three sections collectively make up 82% of the test, while the last two sections account for 14% and 4% of the test questions, respectively. The exam lasts a total of three hours, and examinees are required to correctly answer 75% of the 50 test questions to receive a passing score.
