If you are an HVAC contractor in Alabama, you must renew your professional license every four years. Make sure to meet all the requirements before renewal so you can complete the process quickly and easily to avoid delays.

You’ll need to submit a background check and take continuing education (CE) courses each year as required by the state. You should already have an account on the Alabama Board of HVAC Contractors, but if you don’t, take the time to create one for the easiest renewals.

Requirements for Renewing Your AL HVAC License

In order to be eligible for renewal, you must submit a background check that a state-approved vendor completes. The background check must come back clear of any felony convictions.

You must also pay the appropriate renewal fee, which is $100. If you renew your license after the expiration date (December 31) you’ll be charged an additional fee of $50 by the state.

You are also required to take four hours of CE each year to be eligible for renewal.

The continuing education courses must cover topics regarding code compliance and safety. Some of these courses include:

  • Business and safety
  • IMC code and business
  • International mechanical code updates and changes

These courses can be taken online but must be taken through a state-approved vendor like RocketCert. The state must also approve all materials and courses — another reason to sign up with RocketCert!

Renew Online in a Few Easy Steps

Once you have an account, simply log in and head to the “Renewal Applications” page. Choose “HVAC Contractor” for the license type, then click on the “Renew” button. Enter your information and continue to the payment section to pay your renewal fee, review what you have entered, and click on the “Submit” button.

Once you’ve submitted your application to renew your Alabama HVAC license, you will receive a confirmation email and your license will be renewed within 10 business days. Make sure you start the renewal process well before the expiration date; ideally, you should renew before November 1.

You must also ensure that your current Alabama driver’s license or state-issued ID is valid and current.
