If you are a licensed journeyman, residential, or supervising electrician in Oregon, you are required to renew your license once every three years before October 1. To do so, the state mandates that you complete a certain number of continuing education hours, complete the license renewal application, and submit the appropriate renewal fee.

The most crucial of these steps is the continuing education requirement, which varies depending on which type of license you are renewing. The renewal fee you must submit will be either $50 or $100, depending on your type of electrical license.

What Continuing Education Courses Do You Need to Renew Your Electrical License in Oregon?

If you are a limited residential electrician, you’ll need four hours of Oregon rule and law (ORL), eight hours of code change (CC), and just four hours of code-related content (CR).

General journeyman electricians are required to complete 24 total hours of continuing education. Four hours must be in Oregon rule and law, eight must be in code change, and twelve must refer to code-related content.

General supervision electricians need four Oregon rule and law hours, twelve code change hours, and eight code-related content hours of continuing education.

Limited supervising electricians must complete four hours of Oregon rule and law, twelve hours of code changes, and eight hours of code-related content.

Other types of electrical license holders must complete CE courses as follows:

  • Limited supervisor manufacturing plant electricians: 24 hours (4 ORL, 12 CC, and 8 CR)
  • Class A limited energy technicians: 8 hours (8 CC)
  • Class B limited energy technicians: 8 hours (2 CC and 6 CR)
  • Limited maintenance electricians: 8 hours (2 CC and 6 CR)
  • Limited journeyman sign electricians: 4 hours (2 CC and 2 CR)
  • Limited journeyman manufacturing plant electricians: 16 hours (4 ORL, 8 CC, and 4 CR)
  • Limited renewable energy technicians: 4 hours (2 CC and 2 CR)

Limited elevator journeyman electricians, limited journeyman stage electricians, limited building maintenance electricians, and limited maintenance manufactured structures electricians are all exempt from CE requirements.
