There are two types of plumbing licenses that professionals can apply for in Arkansas: the Journeyman Plumbing License and the Master Plumbing License. Each type of license permits different types of work.

The Journeyman Plumbing License is available for professionals who engage in the practical installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems. This is a more limited license than the Master License.

The Master Plumbing License allows the bearer to perform the supervision and planning of plumbing systems, in addition to the actual installation of the plumbing. The bearer is familiar with all regulations, rules, and laws that govern the plumbing industry.

Obtaining Your Plumbing License in Arkansas

Just as each license affords the bearer different privileges, the requirements for obtaining each type of license are also different.

For the Journeyman Plumbing License, applicants must submit proof of having a minimum of five years of plumbing experience. They must also pass the Journeyman Plumber Exam, after getting approved to take it.

For the Master Plumbing License, applicants must first pass the Master Plumber Exam; pre-approval is required in order to sit for this test. A minimum of four years of plumbing experience must be submitted to the board as well.

In order to apply for and receive the Master Plumbing License, professionals must have held a Journeyman Plumbing License for at least one full year before they become eligible to sit for the Master Plumber Exam.
