Obtaining your Ohio refrigeration license was a big project, thankfully the renewal process is much easier. To successfully apply, you had to meet these requirements:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be a US citizen
  • Provide documentation of five years' experience in refrigeration or three years experience in construction
  • Have a clean record
  • Pass a written exam
  • Pay a fee

Then, to take the exam, you had to meet a whole other set of requirements. Verifying your employment for the past five years is not always an easy task.

Thankfully, this experience is entirely behind you. But if you want to make sure that your efforts were not wasted, you need to stay up to date on your renewals. If this is the first time you’re hearing about that, don’t worry. We will cover everything you need to know about renewing an Ohio refrigeration license.

What Kind of License Do You Have?

If you are reading this, it’s safe to assume that you already have an Ohio refrigeration license. But even within this category, there are two subcategories you could have chosen from. You either have an annual license or a three-year license, and the type of license you have will determine how often you need to go through the renewal process.

Depending on what kind of license you have, you will need to commit to either 8 or 24 hours of continuing education. Each time you renew your license, this will be the case.

Fortunately, a good portion of the materials (i.e., half of them) can be completed at your own pace. The other half will need to be completed through a scheduled live webinar. To participate, you must have a webcam so that you can provide verification of your ID.

Your continuing education course will cover three important topics:

  • Business education
  • Code changes
  • Safety topics

Of course, crossing the course off your to-do list will help you renew your license. But these materials can also help you improve your business strategies and stay up-to-date with industry changes. As technology and the industry’s understanding of refrigeration improves, so will your business.

At the very least, continuing your education will help you keep yourself, your clients, and your employees safe. For that reason alone, we believe that the required hours are more than worth the investment.
