How Do I Obtain a Mold Remediation License in Texas?
Passing an approved exam is not the only thing you must do to obtain a license. Applicants must submit a license application with the proper state or local boards and satisfy their individual licensing requirements. Review the requirements prior to sitting for the exam. In Texas, mold remediation licenses expire every 2 years. To renew your license you must complete at least 8 hours of continuing education during the renewal cycle. We offer state-approved continuing education that fully satisfies the renewal requirements.

The first step is to obtain pre-approval for your exam. Request and submit your application online through the state board’s website. If approved the board will mail a Candidate Eligibility letter, which will contain a PSI Registration Form and instructions for scheduling your required exams.

What the Requirements to Obtain a Mold Remediation License?
Experience / Educational Requirements
You must provide evidence of at least 1 of the following requirements:
- A bachelor's or graduate degree in a natural or physical science, engineering, architecture, building construction, or building science. At least 1 year of hands on experience in a related field or as a general contractor.
- At least 60 college credit hours with a grade of C or better in the natural sciences, physical sciences, environmental sciences, building sciences, or a field related to any of those sciences and at least three years of hands on experience in an allied field or as a general contractor in building construction.
- A high school diploma or a GED certificate along with at least five years of hands on experience in an allied field or as a general contractor in building construction.
- Certification as an industrial hygienist, a professional engineer, a professional registered sanitarian, a certified safety professional, or a registered architect with at least one year of hands on experience either in an allied field or as a general contractor in building construction.
Other Requirements
- Be at least 18 years or older
- Certificate of completion for a department approved initial mold remediation contractor course
- Complete a background check
- Obtain general liability insurance of no less than $1 million
- Obtain preapproval to sit for the exam
