What are the South Dakota Home Inspector License requirements?
Registered Home Inspector
Applicants must complete and submit proof of the following in order to become a Registered Home Inspector:
- At least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completed the 40 hour Home Inspection Education Course
- Passed the NHIE (National Home Inspector Examination)
- Background Check (State and Federal)

Licensed Home Inspector
Applicants must complete and submit proof of the following in order to become a Licensed Home Inspector:
- At least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least one year experience as a Registered Home Inspector
- Background Check (State and Federal)

How do I obtain an South Dakota home inspector license?
To apply for your license, contact the South Dakota Real Estate Commission at 605-773-3600 or visit their website. South Dakota requires 90 hours of training by an approved provider. South Dakota Home Inspector Licenses expire every two years on November 30th. South Dakota requires 24 hours of continuing education to be completed every renewal period. Proof of completion is required for license renewal in South Dakota.
