Cosmetology Continuing Education
Individual cosmetology licenses in Ohio expire every 2 years. Licenses must be renewed before January 15th, 2025. License holders are required to complete 4 hours of continuing education from an approved provider before this date. The CE topics are set by the board and must comply with their requirements. These renewal requirements apply to all who hold a license to practice Cosmetology, a Branch of Cosmetology, and all Instructor License Holders. The 1 hour Board Rules and Laws class may only be taken through the board. More information on these topics can be found in the sections below.

How to I Renew my Ohio Cosmetology License?
In Ohio, you are required to complete 4 hours of continuing education every year to renew your license. Licenses expire every 2 years. The current renewal period ends January 15th, 2025. Renewals submitted after this date are considered late.

Exemptions
Those who meet any of these requirements are exempt from taking CE. Payment of the renewal fee is still required to keep a license active.

First-Time Licensee:
- If this is your first Ohio license, you are not required to obtain CE hours for this renewal period.
- NOTE: Instructor Licenses are not eligible for this exemption

65 or Older:
- Licensees who are age 65 or older, before October 3, 2022 are not required to complete CE hours.

Held a License for 30 Years or More:
- Licensees who have held a board license for 30 or more years, before October 3, 2022 are not required to complete CE hours.
Course Requirements
4 hours total
- 3 hours concerning Safety and Infection Control
- If taken as a stand-alone course the credit may be applied to multiple licenses
- 1 hour concerning Board Laws and Rules
- Only offered by the board
- This course can be applied to multiple licenses
