Cosmetology Continuing Education
Individual cosmetology licenses in Illinois expire every two years. Depending on your license type, it will either expire on even or odd years on the last day of the month. Cosmetologist license holders must complete 14 hours of continuing education while Hair Braiders, Nail Technicians, and Estheticians must complete 10. Half of the CE hours must be completed in a live format. More information on these topics can be found in the sections below.

How to I Renew my Illinois Cosmetology License?
In Illinois, you are required to complete 10 or 14 hours of state approved continuing education every 2 years in order to renew your license. Below you can find a table of the expiration dates of the licenses that are required to complete CE.

- Barber: July 31st, Odd Years
- Cosmetologists: September 30th, Odd Years
- Esthetician: September 30th, Odd Years
- Hair Braiders: October 31st, Even Years
- Nail Technicians: October 31st, Even Years
Required CE Hours
- 10 Hours: Hair Braiders, Nail Technicians, and Estheticians
