There are several requirements you must meet before obtaining your cosmetology license in Florida. Requirements & Steps

How do I obtain my Florida cosmetology license?

In Florida, Cosmetology licenses expire 2 years on 10/31. Group 1 licenses expire in odd years, and group 2 licenses expire in even years. You are required to complete 10 hours of state approved continuing education in order to renew your license.

COMPLETE THE INITIAL TRAINING COURSE

After you complete the initial training course, you can submit your completed application to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

Pass The Exam

The final step to obtaining a license is passing the 2 part Florida cosmetology exam. The exam must be scheduled and taken through Pearson VUE.

Cosmetologist Requirements
All license applicants must complete the 4 Hour Initial HIV / AIDS course
    Cosmetologist:
    • 1,200 school hours in a cosmetology program
    • Pass the 2 part Cosmetology Exam

    Nail Specialist:
    • 180 school hours in a Florida nail program

    Facial Specialist:
    • 220 school hours in a Florida facial specialty program

    Full Specialist:
    • 400 school hours in a full specialty program
