Fire Alarm Systems Contractor
Fire Alarm Systems Contracting (Abbr:FAS) means the service that provides for the installation, repair, or improvement of fire alarm systems that operate at 50 volts or less. The ELE classification also provides for this function. A firm with an FAS license is responsible for meeting all applicable tradesman licensure standards.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Fire Alarm Systems Contractor- All applicants must complete a state approved, 8 hour pre-licensing course
- Pass the Fire Alarm Systems Contractor exam (pre-approval is required)
- Must also obtain a Contractor's Class A, B, or C License
- Class A applicants must pass three required exams (Virginia, General, & Advanced)
- Class B applicants must pass two required exams (Virginia & General)
- Class C applicants are not required to pass an additional exam
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Virginia DPOR at 804-367-8511 or visit Contractor's Board Website.
As of this time, there is no continuing education for contractor's licenses (though there is for the trades). Also, Virginia does not have any reciprocity agreements.

Which exam do I need to take?
The Fire Alarm Systems Contractor Exam must be passed in addition to the Virginia Contractor Class A, B, or C examinations. Passing this exam alone will not be sufficient to obtain a license.

How do I pass the exam?
The Virginia exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
