Painting & Wall Covering License
Means services involving the application of materials commonly used in the painting and decorating industry for protective or decorative purposes. This includes interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, caulking, sanding, cleaning, and the installation of wall coverings such as vinyl, wallpaper, and cloth fabrics. This function is also covered under the CBC and RBC classifications, as well as the HIC and CIC specialties.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Home Improvement- Must also obtain a Contractor's Class A, B, or C License
- Pass the Painting and Wall Covering exam (pre-approval is required)
- Pass all three required exams (Virginia, General, & Advanced)
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Virginia DPOR at 804-367-8511 or visit Contractor's Board Website.
As of this time, there is no continuing education for contractor's licenses (though there is for the trades). Also, Virginia does not have any reciprocity agreements.

How do I pass the exam?
The Virginia exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
The pre-licensing course is required to be completed prior to obtain your license. It is state approved and will provide a foundation of success for your business. The exam prep includes math and accounting, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
