Gas Fitter Licensing & Exam Prep
Maryland requires all tradespeople to obtain a license before any bidding or work can take place. The state recognizes two types of Gas Fitting licenses. A Journey Gas Fitter must work under the direction and supervision of a Master Gas Fitter or Master HVACR licensee, while a Master Gas Fitter may work alone. Journey Gas Fitting License
A Journey Gas Fitter has the ability to provide natural gas services while under the direction and control of a Master Plumber or holder of a Limited Master Plumber license.

Master Gas Fitting License
A Master Gas Fitter has the abilities work independently to provide natural gas services.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journey Gas Fitter- Persons must have a current journey gas fitter license from Baltimore County or WSSC OR
- Acquired 3,750 working hours as an apprentice natural gas fitter over a period of at least two years under the direction and supervision of a licensed master gas fitter or master plumber.
Persons applying based upon experience will also be required to complete an approved training course and pass an examination.
Master Gas Fitter- Meet one of the following criteria:
- Have a current master gas fitter license from Baltimore County or WSSC
- Have at least four years of experience, and completed an approved training program
- Possess an HVACR master or master restricted license, have at least two years of gas fitting experience as a journey gas fitter under a master gas fitter, plumber or HVACR master, who is found to be approved,

How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Maryland State Board of Plumbing at 410-230-6379 or visit the Board Website.
No continuing education is required for each renewal. Also, Maryland has no reciprocity agreements.

After studying with RocketCert, you will be on your way to passing the required State exam(s) (see below). Obtain pre-approval by completing the Examination Registration form in the PSI bulletin. Send the completed form to PSI and wait up to 10 business days for approval to sit for the exam, then schedule a time to sit for the exam. Contact PSI at 855-746-8173 to begin this process. Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities. Pre-approval is required from the testing agency prior to scheduling the exam

How do I pass the exam?
The Maryland exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
