Louisiana Journeyman/Master Plumbing License and Exam Prep
Journeyman/Master Plumber Licensing & Exam Prep
Plumbing licenses can be obtained in either Journeyman or Master classifications. Both licenses require applicants to pass an examination, and the licenses are governed by the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana. Qualifications to obtain and renew the licenses are detailed below.

What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman Plumbing License
A Journeyman Plumber licensed through the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana, is qualified to perform installation, repairs, and maintenance of new and existing plumbing systems under the direct/indirect supervision of a Licensed Louisiana Master Plumber.

Master Plumbing License
Master Plumbers are permitted to plan and lay out plumbing systems and supervise Journeyman Plumbers in the installation, alteration, and/or repair of plumbing systems;
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Plumber Requirements- Pass the Journeyman Plumbing exam
And complete one of the following requirements:
- Have completed an approved apprenticeship program.
OR - Have 8,000 hrs or 5 years experience working under a licensed Louisiana plumbing company
AND
Show proof of either W-2’s or official payroll documentation of time in order to take the Journeyman exam.
Master Plumber Requirements- Pass the Journeyman Plumbing exam
And complete one of the following requirements:
- Hold a current Plumbing License OR
- Hold a current Licensing Board for Contractors Mechanical Work (statewide) license OR
- Hold a current license issued by the Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board certifying or registering he/she as a professional engineer.
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana (SPBLA) at 225-756-3434 or visit their website.
The state requires up to 5 hours of continuing education prior to renewal. Louisiana currently has no reciprocity agreements for Plumbing licenses.

The State Plumbing Board of Louisiana (SPBLA) requires applicants to submit the application in order to receive pre-authorization to sit for the exams.

Part 1 - Drainage Systems and Sewers, Water Supply and Backflow Prevention, General Code, Materials and Installation Practices, Special Wastes and Roof Drains, Fixtures and Trims, Excavation, Inspection and Testing, Individual Sewage Treatment Systems, and Safety.
Part 2 - Drainage Systems and Sewers, Water Supply Systems, Roof Drain Systems, Installation Practices, Methods and Materials, Terminology, and Plans and Specifications.
Part 3 - Project Management, Contract Management, Financial Management, Risk Management, Business Planning and Organization, Licensing, Safety (Laws and Regulations), Labor Laws, Tax Laws, Lien Laws, and Estimating and Bidding.
How do I pass the exam?
The Louisiana exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
The exam prep includes math, isometrics, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
