Louisiana Journeyman/Master Natural Gas Fitter License and Exam Prep
Journeyman/Master Natural Gas Fitter Licensing & Exam Prep
Natural Gas Fitter licenses can be obtained in either Journeyman or Master classifications. Both licenses require applicants to pass an examination, and the licenses are governed by the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana. Qualifications to obtain and renew the licenses are detailed below.

What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman Natural Gas Fitter License
Journeyman Natural Gas Fitters are permitted by licensure to install, alter and/or repair natural gas systems. All Journeymen Natural Gas Fitters must be in the employ of an "employing entity" as defined by the board.

Master Natural Gas Fitter License
Master Natural Gas Fitters are permitted to plan and lay out natural gas systems, supervises gas fitters in the installation, alteration, and/or repair of natural gas systems.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Natural Gas Fitter Requirements- Be registered as an apprentice through the State Plumbing Board
- Have performed manual labor of gas fitting in a two (2) year training period under the direct on-the-job supervision of a licensed Natural Gas Fitter
OR
hold a current plumbing license. - Pass the Journeyman Natural Gas Fitter exam.
Master Natural Gas Fitter Requirements- Hold a current Natural Gas Fitter License OR
- Hold a current Licensing Board for Contractors Mechanical Work (statewide) license OR
- Hold a current license issued by the Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board certifying or registering he/she as a professional engineer.
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana (SPBLA) at 225-756-3434 or visit their website.
The state requires up to 4 hours of continuing education prior to renewal. Louisiana currently has no reciprocity agreements for Natural Gas Fitter licenses.

How do I pass the exam?
The Louisiana exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
