Commercial Building Licensing & Exam Prep
Louisiana issues multiple types of Contractor licenses. The Commercial Building license is used for commercial projects totaling at least $50,000 including labor and materials. The Business and Law course must be completed prior to taking the trade exam. The state does not require continuing education for this license.

Commercial Building License
A Commercial Building Contractor is licensed to undertake commercial projects where the labor and materials amount to at least $50,000. Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing require a commercial license with appropriate classification for projects exceeding $10,000 including labor and materials.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Commercial Building Requirements- Provide a financial statement affidavit showing a minimum of $10,000 net worth (must be current within 12 months of application).
- Submit a complete Commercial Application. Once application is received, the Qualifying Party will receive exam information.
- Complete the Business and Law Course.
- Pass the Commercial Building Exam.
- Once the Application is submitted, provide proof of general liability insurance with a minimum of $100,000 and proof of workers’ compensation coverage.
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Louisiana State Licensing Board (LSLBC) at 225-765-2301 or visit their website.
The state requires 6 hours of continuing education prior to renewal. Louisiana has reciprocity agreements with Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah.

The Louisiana State Licensing Board (LSLBC) requires applicants to submit the Commercial Application in order to receive pre-authorization to sit for the exams.

How do I pass the exam?
The Louisiana exams are open book. The references below are provided on the day of the exam to applicants for use during the exam! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
