What type of license can be achieved with this exam?

Licensed Electrician in Louisiana
  • Commercial Building License

    A Commercial Building Contractor is licensed to undertake commercial projects where the labor and materials amount to at least $50,000. Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing require a commercial license with appropriate classification for projects exceeding $10,000 including labor and materials.

  • Residential Contractor License

    A Residential Contractor is licensed to undertake Residential projects where the labor and materials exceeds $75,000 on any new single family residential home, duplex, triplex or fourplex. Contractors who want to perform residential construction on custom or spec homes must obtain or currently hold a Residential License with the “Residential Building Contractor” classification.

  • Mold Remediation License

    Mold Remediation Licensees in Louisiana are licensed to perform the removal, cleaning, sanitizing, demolition, or other treatment, including preventive activities, of mold or mold‐contaminated matter that was not purposely grown at that location

  • Pass Louisiana General Building Contractor Exam (pre-approval is required)
  • Proven experience: 4 years, baccalaureate degree and 1 year, or equivalent education and work experience
  • Provide proof of successful project completed by applicant within 5 years of application
  • Obtain $500,000 general liability insurance
 Contractor Class 1 Restricted RequirementsResidential Basic Contractor
  • Complete the Business & Law Course
  • Pass Louisiana Residential Basic Contractor (pre-approval is required)
  • Proven experience: 2 years, predominantly in the residential basic category
  • Obtain $300,000 general liability insurance
 Contractor Class 2 Residential-Light Commercial
  • Complete the Business & Law Course
  • Pass Louisiana Residential-Light Commercial Contractor Exam (pre-approval is required)
  • Proven experience: 4 years, baccalaureate degree and 1 year, or equivalent education and work experience
  • Provide proof of 2 successful projects completed by applicant within 4 years of application
  • Obtain $500,000 general liability and workers' compensation insurance

How do I obtain a license?

To apply for your license, contact the Louisiana State Licensing Board (LSLBC) at 225-765-2301 or visit their website.

The state requires continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, Louisiana has reciprocity agreements for certain licenses.

BUSINESS & LAW COURSE
