What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman HVAC Exam
The state qualifies a Journey Worker HVAC as any person who performs or supervises the of installation, improvement, extension, alteration, or repair of HVAC systems under the direction of a HVAC contractor.

HVAC Contractor License
Any person or entity providing or offering to provide any service or work including but not limited to installing, maintaining or repairing heating, ventilation or air conditioning appliances, or gas-fired equipment that requires special venting or gas supply piping systems or subsystems.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman HVAC Applicants - Work Experience- Obtain 8 years (16,000 hours) of experience at least equivalent to an HVAC apprentice in Idaho
- Submit notarized application
- Pass the Idaho HVAC Exam
Journeyman HVAC Applicants - Apprenticeship School- Attended and completed 576 hours of instruction at board approved HVAC Apprenticeship Program
- Work Verification Form verifying 8,000 hours of supervised HVAC installation work completed
- Held active Idaho HVAC Apprentice Registration while completing required 8,000 hours of supervised work
- Submit notarized application
- Pass the Idaho HVAC Exam
HVAC Contractor Requirements- Hold an active Idaho Journeyman Electrician license for 2 years
- Submit notarized application
- Pass the Idaho HVAC Contractors Business & Law Exam
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Idaho Division of Building Safety at 208-334-3950 or visit the board Website.
Journeyman HVACs need 8 hours and HVAC Contractors need 16 Hours of continuing education are requried for each renewal. Also, Idaho Journeyman HVACs have reciprocity agreements with Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Applicants will have 2 days advance notice prior to taking the exam. Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities. Pre-approval is required from the testing agency prior to scheduling the exam
After completing all the steps above, it will be time to apply through DBS to obtain your Idaho HVAC License. Applicants must also submit a $2,000 Compliance Bond in the name of the company. How do I pass the exam?
The Idaho exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
