A license is required in Florida to bid on any Air Conditioning project. The process and exam for general, building, and residential contractors are similar to each other. Class A Air Conditioning Contractors are unlimited in the execution of contracts requiring the licensee to install, maintain, repair, fabricate, alter, extend, or design central air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilating systems. Class A Contractors may also execute contracts including duct work in connection with a complete system but only to the extent that such duct work is performed by the contractor as is necessary to complete an air-distribution system.
Class B Air Conditioning Contractor services are limited to 25 tons of cooling and 500,000 BTU of heating in any one system.
Air Conditioning Contractors shall not perform any work such as liquefied petroleum or natural gas fuel lines within buildings, potable water lines or connections, sanitary sewer lines, swimming pool piping and filters, or electrical power wiring.
Applicants must meet ONE of the following critera to be eligible for an Air Conditioning Contractors License
To schedule your Air Conditioning exam, first obtain pre-approval with PTI by visiting floridaexam.com or call 407-264-0562. After you have been approved, you can schedule your exams with Pearson VUE at 888-204-6230.
Applicants are required to take the Business and Finance exam in additon to their required Air Conditioning exam (either Residential or unlimited)
The Florida exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
The exam prep includes math and accounting, load calculations, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each reference, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
