Journeyman and Master Plumber with Gas
A Journeyman or Master Plumber can design, install, repair or remove plumbing fixtures intended to receive and discharge water, liquid, or water-carried wastes into the drainage system with which they are connected. With this classification you may also install, test or operate any nonindustrial type of gas appliance and piping system from the outlet of the meter set assembly, or from the outlet of the service regulator when a meter is not provided.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Plumbing RequirementsApplicants must meet at least one of the following criteria
- Worked as an apprentice plumber or gasfitter for at least 8,000 hours over at least 4 years
- Graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree in mechanical engineering, and has at least 2 years of practical experience as a plumber or gasfitter as verified by a licensed master plumber or licensed master gasfitter
- Has comparable experience or a combination of education and experience that the Board deems equivalent to the above
- Have any combination of the above requirements that has been deemed sufficient by the board
Pass the required Journeyman Plumbing with Gas exam
Master Plumbing Requirements- Have not less than four (4) years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Plumber

How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection at 202-671-4500 or visit the DLCP website to submit online.
District of Columbia does not require continuing education for Journeyman and Master Plumbers. District of Columbia has no reciprocity agreements for Master or Journeyman Plumbers.

How do I pass the exam?
The District of Columbia exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! All reference materials must be bound. Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
