D-2 Limited Warm Air, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Journeyperson
This license allows the holder to install, repair, replace, maintain, or modify warm air, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including piping for heating or cooling media and related pumping equipment, but only when employed by a licensed contractor. It does not permit the installation or servicing of oil burners of any size.

This license allows the holder to install, repair, replace, maintain, or modify warm air, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including piping for heating or cooling media and related pumping equipment. However, it does not permit the installation or servicing of oil burners of any size.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
JourneypersonTo qualify for the Limited Warm Air, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Journeyperson Exam you must first:
- Complete an apprenticeship with the CT Department of Labor
- If you did not complete an apprenticeship with the CT Department of Labor, you must:
OR
- Submit letters from your current or previous employers that are on company letterhead, dated, and notarized. Each letter must include your employment dates and a detailed description of your on-the-job training and work experience, covering all aspects related to the scope of work for which you are applying.
- Submit proof of related instruction - 4,000 on the job training hours & 432 classroom hours
ContractorTo qualify for the Limited Warm Air, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractor Exam you must first:
- Hold a Journeyperson License for at least 2 years and submit a copy of your current Journeypersons license and the date first issued.
- If you already hold an out of state Heating & Cooling Contractor License you must submit:

- Work history or resume that includes the number of years required for the journeyperson license, along with an additional two years of on-the-job training or experience.
- Letters from your current or previous employers, which must be on company letterhead, dated, and notarized. These letters should include your employment dates and a detailed description of your on-the-job training and work experience, covering all aspects of the scope of work for which you are applying.

No continuing education is required for license renewal. Also, Connecticut has reciprocity possibilities with other boards as long as that board recognizes, as a minimum, the standards prescribed by the board. Check with the board for more details.
