B-1 Limited Gas and Oil Burner Contractor
The holder of this license may perform only work of installing, servicing and repairing of gas or oil burners for domestic and light commercial installations. A domestic or light commercial burner shall be considered as one consuming five gallons or less per hour.

B-2 Limited Gas and Oil Burner Journeyperson
The holder of this license may perform only work of installing, servicing and repairing of gas or oil for domestic and light commercial installations as so defined above and only while in the employ of a contractor licensed for such work.

B-3 Limited Gas and Oil Burner Contractor
The holder of this license may perform the installing, servicing and repairing of any gas or oil fired burners.

B-4 Limited Gas and Oil Burner Journeyperson
The holder of this license may perform the installing, servicing and repairing of any gas or oil fired burner and only while in the employ of a contractor licensed for such work.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
B-2 & B-4 JourneypersonTo qualify for the B-2 or B-4 Limited Gas and Oil Burner Journeyperson Exam you must first:
- Complete an apprenticeship with the Department of Labor
- If you did not complete an apprenticeship with the CT Department of Labor, you must:

- Submit letters from your current / previous employer(s) - Letters must be on company letterhead, dated, and notarized, and must include the dates of employment and a specific, detailed description of your on-the job-training and work experience, including all aspects included in the scope of work you are applying for.
- Submit proof of related instruction:
- B-2: 2000 on the job training hours, 288 classroom hours
- B-4: 4000 on the job training hours, 360 classroom hours
B-1 & B-3 ContractorTo qualify for the B-1 or B-3 Gas and Oil Burner Contractor Exam you must first:
- Hold a Journeyperson License for at least 2 years and submit a copy of your current Journeypersons license and the date first issued.
- If you already hold an out of state Heating & Cooling Contractor License you must submit:

- Work history and/or resume to include the number of years the journeyperson license requires, and an additional two years of on-the-job training and/or experience.
- Letters from current or previous employer(s). Letters must be on company letterhead, dated, and notarized, and must include the dates of employment and a specific, detailed description of your on-the job-training and work experience, including all aspects included in the scope of work you are applying for.

No continuing education is required for license renewal. Also, Connecticut has reciprocity possibilities with other boards as long as that board recognizes, as a minimum, the standards prescribed by the board. Check with the board for more details.
