Journeyman Electrician License
A Journeyman Electrician has the ability to to wire for, install, and repair electrical apparatus and equipment for electric light, heat, and power, and for other purposes.

Master Electrician License
A Master Electrician has the abilities of a Journeyman with the added abilities to plan, lay out, and supervise the installation and repair of wiring apparatus and equipment for electric light, heat, and power, and for other purposes.

Residential Electrician License
A Residential Electrician may wire for, and install, electrical apparatus and equipment for wiring one-, two-, three-, and four-family dwellings.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Electrician- 8,000 hours of experience earned in no less than 4 years.
- 4,000 hours of which must be in commercial/industrial work.
- 288 hours of classroom education required for applicants registered as an apprentice on or after 1/1/2011.
- Must be documented with a transcript or similar statement.
- Pass the Journeyman Electrical exam (pre-approval is required)
Master Electrician- Graduate electrical engineer of an accredited college or university AND 2,000 hours of construction experience earned in no less than 1 year,
OR - Graduate of an electrical trade school or community college AND 8,000 hours of experience earned in no less than 4 years,
OR - 2,000 hours of experience earned in no less than 1 year in addition to the Journeyman requirements listed above
- Some hours of which must be in planning and layout
- Some hours of which must be in supervision* while in possession of a Journeyman Electrician license.
- *Please note that supervision hours will not be applied to the total number of hours to prevent double credit for work done alongside supervisees.
- Pass the Master Electrical exam (pre-approval is required)
Residential Electrician- 4,000 hours of residential only experience earned in no less than 2 years.
- Pass the Master Electrical exam (pre-approval is required)
How do I obtain a license?

24 Hours of continuing education are required for each renewal. Also, Colorado has reciprocity agreements with Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.

How do I pass the exam?
The Colorado exams are open book, and based on the 2023 NEC. Our Bundle will include a copy of the NEC 2023 for studying, but the testing agency will provide a copy of the code book to be used during the actual exam. The tabs included in the bundle should be used with your copy of the code book in order to become familiar with the location of the content in the book.
