Journeyman & Master Electrical License and Exam
Arkansas classifies Electricians as either Journeyman or Master. Whereas the Journeyman is a more limited license, the Master Electrical license is unlimited and allows for contracting with the general public. What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman Electrical License
A Journeyman Electrician is licensed to install, maintain, and extend electrical conductors and equipment. A Journeyman Electrician cannot contract with the general public to plan, lay out or supervise the installation, maintenance and extension of electrical conductors and equipment without employing at least one (1) full-time master electrician.

Master Electrician License
The Master Electrician license is an unlimited license classification and licensees are authorized to plan, lay out, and supervise the installation, maintenance, and extension of electrical conductors and equipment, as well as contract with the general public to do so.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Electrician RequirementsPass the Journeyman Electrician exam (pre-approval is required)
- Provide a "Released for Test" form from a completed 4-year Electrical apprenticeship or state equivalent.
OR - Submit proof of current Journeyman licensure in a sister state for at least one year and with at least 8 years (16,000 hours) of electrical construction experience or training.
Master Electrician RequirementsPass the Master Electrical Contractor exam (pre-approval is required)
- Hold a degree in electrical engineering plus two (2) years of construction related experience
OR - Six (6) years experience in the construction industry, both residential and commercial, including two (2) years experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician
OR - Any combination of training and experience as the Board may approve, such as formal electrical apprenticeship programs specifically approved by the board, on-the-job training specifically approved by the Board, or a combination of training and construction experience that is determined by the Board to be equivalent.

8 Hours of continuing education are required for each renewal. Also, Journeyman Electrical Contractors have reciprocity agreements with Alaska, New Mexico, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Colorado, while Master Electricians only with Oregon.

How do I pass the exam?
The exam prep includes math, theory and calculations, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
