A person who holds a certification issued by the Department of Safety and Professional Services as a certified UDC Construction Inspector may conduct inspections of one- and two-family dwellings for the purpose of administering and enforcing codes during the construction process.

How do I obtain a certification?
To apply for your UDC Construction Inspector certification, contact the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services at 608-266-2112 or visit their website.
UDC Construction Inspector Licenses expire every 4 years on June 30th. To renew, you must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education and submit your renewal to the state. Inspectors are required to complete a total of 24 hours of CE. Wisconsin has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.

Which exam do I need to take?
Applicants have the choice of either taking the trade exam or submitting a copy of their Wisconsin Commercial Building Inspector certification. The Wisconsin Inspector Exams are administered by Pearson VUE or the Department of Safety and Professional Services. To schedule your exam, you must submit an application through DSPS's online LicensE Portal.
