    Electrical Inspectors in New Mexico are responsible for inspecting electrical installations in homes, businesses, and other buildings to ensure they meet state codes and safety standards. Their goal is to ensure all electrical systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with the New Mexico Electrical Code.

    Residential Electrical Inspectors in New Mexico are responsible for ensuring that electrical systems in homes meet state safety codes and standards. They review permits, inspect wiring and installations during construction or renovation, and work with contractors to correct any issues. Their goal is to make sure residential electrical work is safe, reliable, and code-compliant.

What are the requirements for obtaining this license?

  • Applicants shall submit to a background check as prescribed by the commission.
  • The request to certify an applicant must be initiated by an AHJ to fill an inspector position.
  • To qualify as an inspector for general building, electrical, mechanical or LP gas a candidate shall meet the following minimum qualifications:
    • Mechanical-plumbing trade and electrical trades: three years of journeyman or foreman level experience;
    • General construction: three years of foreman experience;
    • LP gas: three years of experience in design, construction or operation of LP gas installations;
    • Candidates for a mechanical, electrical, or general construction inspector position may substitute technical, university, or college training in a mechanical, electrical or general construction field for up to two years of the three years journeyman or foreman level experience. The remaining year must be directly related journeyman or foreman level field experience. The equivalency shall be calculated such that one year of technical, university or college training shall equal 1/2 a year of journeyman or foreman level experience.
  • Pay all applicable fees.
  • Candidates for a mechanical, electrical or general construction inspector position may substitute a minimum of five years of work experience as a certified inspector from a recognized jurisdiction for one year of the experience requirement, and at least two years of related trade experience or construction related technical, university or college training.
  • Pass the approved exam

How do I obtain Electrical/ Residential Electrical Inspector License?

To apply for your Electrical Inspector (General)/Residential Electrical Inspector License, contact the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department at 505-476-4622 or visit their website.

Electrical (General)/Residential Electrical Inspectors are required to complete state approved continuing education to renew their license. Inspectors are required to complete a minimum of 16 hours of CE every 3 years, with 8 hours dedicated to code updates. New Mexico has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.

APPLY FOR YOUR REGISTRATION

Before you may sit for the exam, you must first submit your application for examination. Be sure to include copies of you current licenses and certifications.

PASS THE STATE EXAM

After studying with RocketCert, you will be on your way to passing the required State exam. Exams are administered by PSI Exams. Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities. Application for Examination must be approved prior to scheduling the exam.

WAIT FOR YOUR REGISTRATION
