An Electrical Inspector One- and Two-Family inspects and approves electrical installations in one- and two-family dwellings. The inspector ensures compliance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), reviewing wiring, grounding, overcurrent protection, and service equipment for safety and code compliance. This role focuses solely on residential systems and upholds electrical safety in homes across Kentucky.
An Electrical Inspector General is certified to inspect and approve electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The inspector ensures all systems meet the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and state standards, verifying proper design, installation, and safety practices for new construction, remodels, and service upgrades statewide.
In addition to the National Electrical Code, the electrical inspector shall be familiar with all applicable building codes and fire safety codes governing buildings in the area in which the electrical inspector performs an inspection.

Passing these exams alone is not enough to obtain a license. Applicants must submit a license application with the proper state or local boards and satisfy their individual licensing requirements. Review the requirements prior to sitting for the exam. The best place to find more details about license requirements is by contacting the issuing board directly.
Most places require license holders to complete continuing education every year or two years in order to renew the license. Continuing education requirements for a license will be independent of the continuing education requirements set by IAEI, the issuing party of the certifications. They require that anyone who actively holds a certification is to complete 24 hours of continuing education every 3 years. We offer state-approved continuing education for trades across the country.
