Journey, Residential Specialty, and Trainee Continuing Education
We offer state-approved online continuing education courses. Journey Plumber and Residential Specialty Plumber have the same number of hours. Trainees must complete 8 hours per year for renewal. We offer a variety of online courses for each license type to cover you no matter how many hours you need.

How do I renew my plumbing license in Washington?
In Washington, the plumbing licenses expires every 3 years or annually if you are a trainee. To renew, you are required to complete your required hours prior to the renewal.

What are the required topics and hours for my license?
Journey & Residential Specialty
24 Hours Per Renewal
- 12 hours of Uniform Plumbing Code
- 4 hours of industry-related electrical (IRE)
- 8 hours of Code, IRE, or industry-related Plumbing (IRP)
Plumbing Trainee
8 Hours Annually
- 8 hours of Plumbing Code
- 4 hours of industry-related electrical (IRE)
- 4 hours of Code, IRE or Industry-Related Plumbing (IRP)
If you take 8 hours of Code one year, the following year you must take a minimum of 4 hours of IRE, and another 4 hours in Code, IRE, or IRP. We call them Option 1 and Option 2
