The Limited Electrical license is designed for jobs totaling less than $25,000. It is not accepted in every county; in some cases an Electrical Contractor License must be obtained.

This license allows licensees to perform electrical work of less than $25,000 in certain municipalities.
For many jobs, a Limited Electrical license will not suffice, and an Electrical Contractor License will be necessary. This license allows licensees to perform electrical work including wiring of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and structures; all types of low voltage work, electrical temperature controls, fire detection systems, signal and burglar alarms, roadway lighting, attenuators, and signalization.

Athens, Bartlett, Bristol, Chattanooga, Clarksville, Collegedale, Collierville, Cookeville, East Ridge, Elizabethton, Franklin, Hamilton County, Humboldt, Jackson, Johnson City, Kingsport, Knoxville, Lakesite, Lookout Mountain, Maryville, Memphis/Shelby County, Morristown, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Oak Ridge, Signal Mountain, Soddy Daisy, Watauga (State Inspectors make inspections).
The NASCLA Electrical Exam can be taken to obtain a Journeyman / Master license in these counties. Check with the local licensing agency for more information.
To apply for your LLE license, contact the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance at 615-741-2241. You can also visit the Tennessee board of licensing contractors website to submit online.
Tennessee does not require continuing education and has no reciprocity agreements for this license.
