Journeyman Electrician License
A Journeyman Electrician is able to wire, install, and repair electrical apparatus and equipment in accordance with the standard rules and regulations governing such work.

Class B Electrician License
A Journeyman Electrician is able to wire, install, and repair electrical apparatus and equipment in accordance with the standard rules and regulations governing such work.

Master Electrician License
A licensed Master Electrician in North Dakota is able to plan, lay out, and supervise the installation and repair of electrical wiring apparatus, and equipment for electric light, heat, and power in accordance with the standard rules and regulations governing such work.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Electrician- Submit signed and completed application to the North Dakota State Electrical Board
- Pass the Journeyman Electrical exam
- Have 8,000 hours of experience, which experience may not be obtained in less than three (3) years, registered as an apprentice electrician.
- 2,000 hours may be substituted for completion of a 2 year electrical school
- A minimum of 4,000 hours and a maximum of 8,000 hours credit may be granted for wiring for and installing electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment.
- Other Maximums: 1,000 for repairing electrical wiring or fire alarm wiring; 2,000 for wiring process control circuits/systems, or equivalent service in the armed forces.
Class B Electrician- Submit signed and completed application to the North Dakota State Electrical Board
- Pass the Journeyman Electrical exam
- 3,000 hours of experience in farmstead or residential wiring, in one-family or two-family dwellings, under the supervision of a master or class B electrician.
- 1,000 hours may be substituted for completion of a 2 year electrical school
- A minimum of 4,000 hours and a maximum of 8,000 hours credit may be granted for wiring for and installing electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment.
Master Electrician- Submit signed and completed application to the North Dakota State Electrical Board
- Pass the Journeyman Electrical exam
- At least 2,000 hours of experience working as a licensed Journeyman Electrician under the supervision of a contracting Master Electrician or master of record.
How do I obtain a license?

The state requires 8 hours of continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, North Dakota has limited reciprocity agreements for Journeyman with Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Utah, and Wyoming. Master licenses have agreements with Minnesota and South Dakota.

How do I pass the exam?
The North Dakota exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
